Dr. Uzodinma Akujekwe Adirieje is a distinguished multifaceted Nigerian professional actively functioning as a health and development systems/projects consultant, civil society leader, health economist, evaluator, climate change/biodiversity leader, renewable energy, certified trainer/facilitator, columnist/writer, trained solar PV installer, sustainable development champion, and gender mainstreaming/human rights advocate with over 20 years of hands-on experience. He is the Chief Executive Officer [CEO] and Permanent Representative to the United Nations System, of Afrihealth Optonet Association (AHOA) - a global network and think tank of over 3,000 member organizations in 120 countries.

 

Dr. Adirieje’s wide range of areas of expertise include Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Health Systems Strengthening, Climate Change and Biodiversity Advocacy, Gender Mainstreaming and Human Rights, Project and Programme Management, Capacity Building and Training, Community Engagement and Community Systems Strengthening; Health Insurance, Healthcare Financing, and managed Care, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Conference Planning, Management, Organization, and Reporting; and Facilitation of Trainings, Workshops, Seminars, Symposiums, Meetings, Webinars, etc. His services span the Global Women Network Africa Conference (2013), International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (2005), Nigeria National Health Conferences (1996 -1999), 63rd National Council on Health Conference, Nigeria (2022), Nigeria Family Planning Conference (NFPC) (2022 & 2024). He was the National Team Supervisor and Data Collection Team Leader (data collector, data analyst and data quality assessment) of the Global Fund/NMEP/ISA’s Malaria Matchbox Nigeria Project 2020-2021 in conflict-ridden Northeastern Nigeria. He was Project Director of the vastly media-reported UNDEF-funded ‘Sustainable Citizen Participation (SCP) in Nigeria’s Niger Delta’ Project on Energy, Environment and SDGs challenges across 81 communities/LGAs in the Niger Delta.

 

Uzodinma was Member, National Steering Committee on Alternate School Programme (ASP), appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari (2019–2023); Technical Adviser to Nigeria’s Ag Minister of Foreign Affairs (2012-2013). He’s currently a member of the National Core Working Group on Voluntary National Review (CWG-VNR) for the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF); Member, National Monitoring and Evaluation Technical Working Group (M&E TWG) under the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning; Member, National Technical Committee of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON); Chairman, Nigeria’s National World Malaria Day Committee, 2019; etc. Dr. Adirieje has served as a consultant/implementing agent to various organizations, including the African Union/Government of Nigeria/UNAIDS; Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), UNICEF, World Health Organizations (WHO), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Every Woman Treaty Coalition, USA; Office of the Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Sightsavers International, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Child Health Foundation, USA; Task Force Sight and Life, Switzerland; American Diabetes Association, USA; and Nigeria’s Country Coordination Mechanism of the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria (GFATM).

 

Uzodinma Adirieje is currently the President, African Network of Civil Society Organizations (ANCSO); Chair, Global Consortium of Civil Society on Climate Change and Conference of Parties; President, Society for Conservation and Sustainability of Energy and Environment in Nigeria (SOCSEEN); Provost, Institute of Civil Society Activities (ICSA); former National President, Nigerian Association of Evaluators (NAE); former President, Civil Society Organizations Strategy Group on SDGs in Nigeria (CSO-SDGs); Convener, Civil Society Partnership for SDGs in Nigeria (CSP-SDGs Nigeria); among others.

He has authored numerous articles and publications on various topics, many of which are available online. He is a Distinguished Development Practitioner (DDP); Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC); Fellow, Institute of Management Specialists (FIMS); Fellow, Nigerian Association of Evaluators (FNAE); Fellow, African Scientific Institute (FASI); Fellow, Society for Energy and Environment (FSEE); Fellow, Afrihealth Optonet Association (FAHOA); and Fellow, Institute of Civil Society Activities (FISCA). He holds certifications in 'Good Clinical Practice Course', 'Responsible Conduct of Biomedical Research', and 'The Nigerian National Code of Health Research Ethics' from CITI USA/CBR Nigeria.

 

Dr. Uzodinma Adirieje is a recipient of several local and international awards including the Recognition Award from the International Organization for Cooperation in Evaluation (IOCE) for his enduring commitment and valuable contributions (2022); SDG 3 – Good Health and Wellbeing Champion Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award for Health and Development Leadership, from Corporate and Social Responsibility Reporters (2023); among others. A community leader per excellence and former President General of his Ebensaaa Autonomous Community, Adirieje holds chieftaincy titles including ‘High Chief Ugwumba 1’ of Amaruru Clan’, and ‘Ahaejiejemba’ Ndigbo Lagos State. He holds the traditional ‘Nze’ title; is a ‘Noble’ in the Knight of St. John International (KSJI), and has been honoured as ‘Ezinna’ in the Catholic Church. Ahaejiejemba is married to Lady Ugosimba Edith Adirieje and they have three children and one grandchild.
